Nuala Honan 2nd Mar 15
Good morning Monday! If we can get our listening bums into gear this will be a weekly post on a monday, introducing you to new music you might not have heard of!
First, a night I have been hosting every Tuesday (for 5 years now!) in Bristol, UK, called Live in the Lion’s Den, has programmed a whole month of music featuring women this March, to celebrate the launch of The World is Listening and International Women’s Day.
So first we point you to both acts on the bill tomorrow (Tuesday 3rd March at the Golden Lion on Gloucester Rd)
Musicians, and mothers, Olivia Dunn and Misha Law make up this class duo, ‘Other Mother’. It’s a brand new project inspired by their ‘cracked family’ (as opposed to a ‘broken family’ they say, a cracked family lets the light in) they play original material on violins, viola, cello and with voices. Check out their beautiful track ‘Canada’ on soundcloud.
Also on the bill tomorrow is young and exciting Bristol based singer songwriter, the very much up and coming, Ema Sierra. Her sound is electrifying!
Lastly, a great place to find new and independent women in music is via bandcamp. This is a GREAT platform for artists to sell their music to the public in a very easy, simple and slick webby way. You can usually order physical copies AND download the music. Step away from the iTunes, this is your new source.
Stolen from what’s new and hot on bandcamp this week is THEESatisfaction with a very cool 2nd album of what i’m going to call psychedelic alt r’n’b, EarthEE
